I study Latin American and Caribbean literature, culture, and music. My dissertation focusses on hip-hop from Cuba, Brazil, and Haiti. I have also written on cumbia and literature in Argentina and comparative receptions of the Haitian Revolution and the Brazilian Palmares quilombo. I hold a MMus in Violin Performance and have performed and recorded early baroque, romantic, and hip-hop. My recent CD Sentimientos Desafinados, a collaboration with several Cuban hip-hop producers and recording artists, was nominated in 2017 for a Cubadisco award for best hip-hop album.
